North Carolina Agricultural & Technical University Receives Daufuskie Island Portfolio

““The arts are also a bridge to connect people of different cultures and backgrounds, and we have been proud to partner with Jeanne at many moments during her career” —Derek Ellington, Triad Market President at Bank of America

On February 26, 2020, the first Daufuskie Island portfolio was sponsored by Bank of America to become part of the University Galleries at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical University. As part of the placement, which was timed for Black History Month, there were also a robust series of events for the students and public. The presentation of the portfolio and conversation with Moutoussamy-Ashe was a larger public event with 80 people that featured Dr. Beryl McEwen, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for the Division of Academic Affairs, and the Chancellor Harold L. Martin.

Additionally, Moutoussamy-Ashe had the opportunity to meet with students in the Visual Arts department to lead a masterclass. They discussed fine art production, the role of art, Black history and how to use those ideas to envision more equitable and inclusive futures.
